We are happy to inform you that RLS has just published two new information materials about the Natura 2000 Site “Eastern Cluj Hills”:

1. Dealurile Clujului de Est - ALBUM, written in romanian, english, hungarian, german and french languages, authors Andrei Crișan and László Rákosy, and contents 150 representative pictures for ”Eastern Cluj Hills” (112 pgs.).

2. Ecotourism Routes in the Natura 2000 Site “Eastern Cluj Hills”, the brochure is written in romanian and english languages, author Andrei Crișan, and contents 9 ecotourism routes from ”Eastern Cluj Hills” and some useful contacts in the vicinity of the Natura 2000 Site Eastern Cluj Hills (64 pgs.).

On October 19, 2018, "Babeş-Bolyai" University, Cluj-Napoca awarded the honorary title of Profesor Honoris Causa to one of the most prominent ecologists / entomologists in Europe, namely Prof. Univ. Dr. Josef Settele of Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. The success of the event is primarily due to Professor Univ. Dr. László Rákosy, Head of Taxonomy and Ecology Department (Faculty of Biology and Geology, UBB Cluj-Napoca), who practically initiated and completed all the administrative steps required for such an occasion.

The Romanian Lepidopterological Society would like to thank the volunteers Louise Bacon, Vince Lea, David Watkins, Tony Moverley, Chris Fletcher, Veronica Bell and Zoë Harris for their activities in the "La Copârșaie" Nature Reserve in Cluj, August 27-30, 2018. The seven Cambridge Conservation Volunteers, together with RLS representatives, have made considerable efforts to bring the core of the reserve to a good conservation status by mowing grassy vegetation and removing invasive vegetation.

We are proud that Prof. dr. László Rákosy (the President of Romanian Lepidopterological Society) have been awarded a 2017 Marsh Christian Trust European Award.

Butterfly Conservation are extremely impressed with his wide-ranging research focussing on the rare and endangered butterflies of Romania, including the Maculinea (Large Blues), in which he and his team have made many pioneering breakthroughs to aid conservation.”

In August 4th, 2017 we had special guests in "Dealurile Clujului Est" Natura 2000 site:

Maria-Luisa Paracchini (EC, Joint Research Centre, Institute for Environment and Sustainability)
Jan-Erik Petersen (European Environment Agency)
Răzvan Popa (Fundația ADEPT)
Cristian Maloș (Facultatea de Știința Mediului, UBB Cluj-Napoca).

They enjoyed "Fânațele Clujului" botanical reserve, traditional rural/agricultural landscapes and Maculinea butterflies.

Prof. László Rákosy and his team are partners in european project STACCATO - page of UBB team, STACCATO - main page of the project.

In August 22-25th, 2016 there was an important workshop at Cluj-Napoca for this project. There were over 25 experts from 7 european countries: Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Bulgaria, Romania, Spain and Switzerland.

Romanian Lepidopterological Society has organized the XXVIth National Entomological Symposium in April 23, 2016 in Cluj-Napoca. Romanian version of the programme can be downloaded from here.

Romanian Lepidopterological Society has finished the Management Plan for Dealurile Clujului Est Natura 2000 site.

The Management Plan was aproved by MMAP Order no. 1028/2016 and published in Official Monitor no. 1048/27.XII.2016.
